The New Black 84” Massage Table is an ideal middle-of-the-road choice for users who want a quality massage table, but don’t want to spend too much on it but are looking for one of the best massage table they can get for the money. While it doesn’t have the plethora of features or the flashy design you might find on more expensive massage table models, this one is simple and it just works, making it ideal for students or anybody who needs a functional, lightweight table.
This model comes with a free carrying case and a strap on the side, so it’s easy to transport. It also includes a face rest for facedown massages as well as an armrest lying directly beneath the facial cushion. There are also armrests jutting out from either side of the table, for users who may have wide shoulders or arms which stretch slightly over the edge.
Dimensions & Product Design
The New Black 84” Portable Massage Table is 73 inches long and 28 inches wide. It also weighs under 32 pounds. As far as massage tables go, that’s pretty standard, or maybe even slightly light for the size. These measurements don’t include the face cradle (the section of the table that holds your head while you’re lying facedown) either. Furthermore, it has the ability to support up to 450 pounds in total, which is above and beyond what most massage tables need to do on a daily basis.
As such, this is a great massage table to recommend to slightly bigger users, or massage practitioners who heavily and regularly use their massage tables. Unlike cheaper portable massage tables, it’s unlikely to break while you’re using it, even at the hinges where it folds.
That said, the product design, while solid and functional, doesn’t inspire as much confidence as we’d like. Users mostly just see the black foam lining the top of the table as well as the wooden legs, frame and supporting struts lying beneath it, tied together with a couple of metal bolts and underpinnings. We would have preferred a little more reinforcement, like with all-metal construction at the folding hinge or a folding system that relied less on interconnected pieces of wood.
Of course, the design is perfectly functional! But it leaves something to be desired both in terms of aesthetics and in terms of reassuring the user that it’s as solid as the marketing says it is.
One last note: though the design is a bit simplistic, that’s not necessarily a bad thing if you’re on the move all the time. This chair is very easy to set up, take down, and carry around because it has very few extra components or unnecessary features. If portability is your primary concern, trumping design or aesthetics or stability, and you need to be able to take your massage table around, this is a good choice. You won’t have to put in too much work every time you stuff it in the trunk or backseat of your car.
As far as we can tell in our testing, this massage table is more or less of a standard variety. That means that while it isn’t particularly premium, and may not satisfy high-end buyers, it’s also not cheap. This table won’t break on you the first week you get it because it’s been constructed from shoddy materials. It competes at roughly the same level as other options from different companies at this price point.
This product is made of beach timber and high density foam. The wood is used to make up the legs and base of the table, while the foam covers the top of the table in a thick layer, used to cushion and facilitate comfort while the table is in use.
The materials are perfectly functional, and they’re more than comfortable enough for regular usage of this massage table without any lingering discomfort or pressure points. However, this is one area that the New Black 84” Portable Massage Table doesn’t really add anything new to. The materials are fairly simplistic.
While they should last you for quite a long while without needing replacement, this is one are we would have liked to see a bit more innovation in with this particular massage table. More metal or stronger materials could have been used to reinforce weaker spots, like the folding hinge. Moreover, name brand foam (especially memory foam) could have been used, but instead they’re simply generic materials.
